As a proudly female-founded business, The Language Factory is committed to empowering women. In this blog we celebrate the efforts of our partner charities and their significant impact both here in the UK and far beyond.
For over ten years we have supported MicroLoan Foundation, a social microfinance institution that provides business loans and training to women facing poverty in sub-Saharan Africa. To date, MicroLoan has empowered over 450,000 female entrepreneurs, offering the resources and skills needed to improve their lives and those of their families and communities.
Over the course of our longstanding partnership, the TLF team has participated in various activities to raise money for the MicroLoan Foundation. The most challenging one by far being the 3,002m-trek to the top of Malawi’s high peak, Mount Mulanje.
Following in the footsteps of our Project Manager, Donají Edwins, our Marketing Consultant, Natalie Hall undertook this feat of endurance only last month. It also offered her the opportunity to visit one of MicroLoan Foundation’s local branches, meet their Blantyre office team and see the difference her fundraising is making first hand.
The women Natalie spoke to shared their experiences as clients of the MicroLoan Foundation. They highlighted how the funds and training provided by the organisation have helped them start and scale their businesses. They also explained how becoming entrepreneurs has enabled them to realise their aspirations for themselves, their families, and their communities. This includes increased food security, better education, improved access to healthcare, and even the ability to start accumulating savings.
Natalie shared that “visiting the clients of the MicroLoan Foundation in Mulanje was a truly inspirational experience. Hearing firsthand how the loans and training have empowered these incredible women to transform their lives and communities was profoundly impactful. It feels incredibly rewarding to see the generosity of my sponsors being put to such good use, and I look forward to raising more money for this fantastic charity on the next MicroLoan challenge.”
Congratulations to all the trekkers who raised an amazing total of £25,299!

TLF also champions charities supporting women in the UK. For example, through donations to the charity Refuge, the largest specialist domestic abuse organisation in the UK. Their services support thousands of survivors, helping them to overcome the physical, emotional, financial and logistical impacts of abuse and rebuild their lives.
The Language Factory team will continue to support the valuable work of MicroLoan Foundation and UK charities such as Refuge going forward, and you can too. Find out more about their work and donate to MicroLoan or Refuge.
